[mediK / HEALTH IN NEWS] SEOUL, South Korea — KonKuk University Hospital’s Robotic Surgery Center will introduce the fifth-generation Da Vinci surgical robot (DV5) in late August, with clinical use scheduled to begin in September.

Developed as an advancement of the fourth-generation Da Vinci Xi, the DV5 features approximately 150 improvements. A key innovation is the new 'Force Feedback' technology, which allows surgeons to gauge and control the force applied to tissues during operations. This advancement is expected to reduce tissue trauma while enhancing surgical precision and patient safety.

The system also introduces ergonomic upgrades, including curved armrests and an enhanced viewing console, to improve surgeon comfort. A high-resolution vision system further improves intraoperative visibility and color accuracy, which hospital officials expect will enhance both surgical efficiency and patient satisfaction.

The Robotic Surgery Center at KonKuk University Hospital currently operates two Da Vinci Xi systemsand one single-port Da Vinci SP robot. With the DV5, the center expects to expand patient access to robotic-assisted surgeries.

“This advanced technology marks a major milestone in providing precise and safe surgical care,” said Dr. Hyung Gon Kim, director of the Robotic Surgery Center. “We remain committed to investing in patient-centered care and state-of-the-art medical infrastructure.”
