Infertility is defined as the inability to conceive after regular unprotected intercourse. For women under 35, this applies after one year of attempts, while for women aged 35 and older, it applies after six months. If conception does not occur within these timeframes, visiting a fertility clinic for evaluation is recommended.

Hormone therapy remains a cornerstone of infertility treatment, though even low doses of reproductive hormones can cause notable side effects. Patients receiving high-dose regimens often report bloating and a heavy sensation due to fluid retention. While not all patients experience this, those with excessive fatigue or discomfort should discuss the possibility of a supervised treatment break with their physician. Such intervals can help restore both physical and mental well-being, improving resilience for continued therapy.

Lifestyle modifications play a vital role during infertility treatment. Regular physical activity—such as aerobic exercise performed at least three times a week for 30 minutes at moderate intensity (e.g., maintaining a heart rate above 120 bpm)—is recommended. Achieving and maintaining an optimal weight is important for reproductive health and future pregnancy outcomes. For those who are overweight, reducing body weight by 5–10% can significantly improve natural conception rates. Regular weight monitoring is encouraged to help maintain a healthy range.

Getting sufficient sleep—ideally at least seven hours per night, with bedtimes before midnight—supports successful conception. Diet also plays a vital role. Reducing processed food intake and adopting a Mediterranean-style diet can improve overall health and enhance fertility outcomes.

Although severe stress can disrupt hormonal balance and potentially contribute to infertility, such cases are relatively uncommon. Rather than viewing stress as the primary barrier to conception, patients are encouraged to engage in enjoyable activities to ease emotional strain while continuing treatment.

Infertility treatment often requires frequent clinic visits—about four to five times over a two-week period, or every three to four days. Scheduling is critical, and patients who cannot attend should consult their physician in advance to adjust the treatment plan appropriately.

Infertility treatment is often a prolonged journey, requiring balance and perseverance. Approaching it with optimism, self-care, and adherence to medical guidance can increase the likelihood of success. With steady commitment and support, patients can navigate this process toward a fulfilling outcome.
