[mediK / HEALTH IN NEWS] If you want a bird’s-eye view of Seoul, nothing beats Namsan Seoul Tower (남산서울타워). Perched atop Namsan, the green heart of the city, the tower has been the capital’s signature landmark for decades. At dusk, when the sky blushes crimson and the tower’s lights flicker on, it becomes more than an observatory—it’s the place that completes Seoul’s romantic soul.

The real draw is the 360-degree panorama. Through floor-to-ceiling glass, the city sprawls in every direction: bustling by day, glittering by night. The Han River (한강), Bukaksan (북악산), and the rolling ridges of Namsan frame a skyline few spots can rival. On clear days, even Lotte World Tower (롯데월드타워) and distant Bukhansan (북한산) come into view, and each season painting the skyline anew.

Beyond the views, the tower brims with things to do. Couples flock to the “love locks” along the railing—tens of thousands of padlocks etched with names and promises of forever. Inside, you’ll find Korean restaurants, cafés, souvenir shops, and a media-art zone perfect for lingering. After dark, the tower lights up with the N Seoul Tower Media Façade—a seasonal light show that transforms the night with new themes.

Getting there is half the fun. Namsan’s wooded staircases and walking trails are a favorite urban escape for Seoulites; cherry blossoms blanket the paths in spring, maples blaze in fall. Even in the middle of the city, the changing seasons feel vivid.

The Namsan Cable Car (남산케이블카) lets you savor the ascent. Round-trip fares are 15,000 won for adults and 11,500 won for children; one-way tickets cost 12,000 won and 9,000 won respectively. Watching Myeongdong (명동) and the tower draw nearer through the windows makes the ride a hit with visitors. Shorter hops on the Namsan circular bus or a full hike are also options—access is easy, and the journey itself is a stroll through Seoul’s daily life, nature, and romance.

Around the base, the choices multiply. Myeongdong, Hoehyeon (회현), and Itaewon (이태원)—three of Seoul’s liveliest districts—are minutes away, ideal for post-tower meals or shopping. Myeongdong’s street food and the cluster of hanok cafés below Namsan are especially popular with international travelers.
